Wondering what getting started with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) looks like?
At Apex TRT, we make the process straightforward, from your first blood test through to your ongoing care. Your treatment is guided by your symptoms, blood results and overall health, with our medical team supporting you at every stage.
Here's what your journey with Apex TRT looks like.
Getting started with Apex TRT is straightforward. Simply click Start Now and complete our online medical questionnaire. This helps our clinical team understand your symptoms, medical history and overall health.
Once completed, you can arrange your first comprehensive blood test. The cost of your blood test is shown before you make payment.
Not quite ready to start or have some questions? You can also book a free discovery call and speak with our team.
Blood tests are an important first step in understanding your testosterone levels and overall health.
Your first test is a comprehensive blood panel covering more than 45 biomarkers, giving our clinical team a detailed picture of your hormone levels and other important health markers.
We'll send your pathology referral directly to your phone, so you can visit a participating Sonic Healthcare pathology collection centre.
Testosterone levels can vary from day to day, so two separate blood tests are generally needed to confirm low testosterone levels.
If your first results indicate low testosterone, we'll contact you by email with instructions to arrange a second, smaller blood test to confirm your levels.
Once your results have been reviewed, we'll let you know the next steps. If your results don't indicate a need for TRT, we'll explain the outcome and what options are available.
Your testosterone blood tests should generally be completed in the morning, following the preparation instructions provided with your referral, including fasting where required.
For more information, read our How to Prepare for Your Testosterone Blood Test guide.
If your blood results and medical information indicate that a doctor consultation about TRT is appropriate, we'll invite you to book your appointment.
Your initial care plan payment is made when booking your consultation.
Before your appointment, an Apex TRT doctor will review your medical history, questionnaire and blood test results.
During your 15-minute phone consultation, your doctor will:
Your consultation takes place via telehealth over the phone, at a time you've booked.
Feel free to ask anything. Writing your questions down beforehand can help you make the most of your consultation.
If your doctor determines that TRT is appropriate for you, they'll explain your treatment plan and how to follow it.
Your treatment is tailored to your symptoms, blood results and individual health needs.
Once your plan is approved, your electronic prescription (eScript) is sent to your phone by SMS, generally on the same day.
You can take your eScript to any participating Australian pharmacy, including your usual pharmacy, and pay for your medication directly.
Apex TRT doesn't add a markup to your medication.
Your care doesn't stop once treatment begins.
At Apex TRT, we regularly monitor your symptoms, blood results and overall health to make sure your treatment remains appropriate and is working as intended.
Here's what to expect after starting treatment.
During the first few weeks, you'll follow the treatment plan explained by your doctor.
Everyone responds differently, and it can take time to notice changes in how you feel.
If you have questions or concerns along the way, our support team is available to help.
Around 10 weeks after starting treatment, you'll have your first follow-up blood test to see how you're responding.
This checks your testosterone levels and other important health markers to help assess how your treatment is working.
A registered nurse will go through your results with you, discuss how you're feeling and check whether your symptoms are improving.
If anything needs attention or your treatment may need adjusting, your nurse will work with your doctor to review your plan.
This is an important part of making sure your treatment is appropriate for your individual needs.
Your next comprehensive review is generally scheduled around six months after starting treatment, with ongoing reviews every six months after that.
These reviews include a comprehensive blood panel covering more than 45 biomarkers, helping our clinical team monitor your hormone levels and overall health.
Your results are reviewed alongside how you're feeling and how well your treatment is working.
If anything needs adjusting, your medical team will discuss the next steps with you.
Additional blood tests or reviews may be arranged sooner if clinically required.
This ongoing monitoring helps ensure your treatment remains safe and appropriate over time.
Your Apex TRT care plan is billed every three months, with no lock-in contract.
Your ongoing care includes:
Medication is separate and paid directly to your pharmacy. Your initial testing and payment arrangements are explained before you proceed.
