Your TRT Journey: Step by Step | Apex TRT Learn

From your first questions and two blood tests to the week-10 review and 6-monthly bloods: what happens at each stage of an Apex plan, and what you do.

Your plan, stage by stage

An Apex TRT plan is not a script and a goodbye. It moves in clear stages, and at each one you know what is happening and what, if anything, you need to do. Here they are in order, from your first question to ongoing care.

Step 1: A few questions

What happens. You start with the 5-minute health assessment, from your phone. Your answers go straight to the clinical team, so you never repeat yourself. Then a small upfront payment covers your blood tests.

What you do. Answer honestly, including any medications you take. If you would rather talk before you start, book a free 10-minute discovery call.

Step 2: Two blood tests

What happens. We send the pathology referral to your phone and you visit a collection centre near you, anywhere in Australia. No GP visit needed. You have a full panel first, then a follow-up, because levels change day to day and two results give your doctor a clearer picture than one. The results go straight to your doctor.

What you do. Book early collection slots and go fasted. A fasted morning draw is recommended for the most accurate readings.

Step 3: Talk it through with a doctor

What happens. Your doctor reviews your results within 48 hours of the lab releasing them. You then meet an AHPRA-registered doctor by secure video, or by phone if you prefer, at a time you book online. Your questionnaire and bloods are already in front of them, so the time is spent on you.

What you do. Write your questions down beforehand, so the time goes on your results and your options.

Step 4: Your plan, if it's right for you

What happens. If treatment is appropriate, your doctor writes your plan and explains it before you start, and your eScript arrives on your phone by SMS the same day your plan is approved. If your levels are normal, we do not prescribe, and we explain why.

What you do. Fill your eScript at the pharmacy you choose and pay the pharmacy directly. We add nothing on top. Then follow your plan as your doctor explained it.

Step 5: Care that keeps going

Your plan is reviewed as you go, and it changes when your numbers do.

The first weeks

What happens. You follow your plan, with a nurse a message away. Your results, scripts and appointments sit in your portal, with your next step always at the top.

What you do. Let the care team know about anything that changes, including any of the side effects your doctor talked you through. Use the portal for bookings and messages.

The week-10 review

What happens. Follow-up bloods at week 10 check how you are responding and look at the safety markers: total and free testosterone, SHBG, oestradiol and a full blood count including haematocrit. A doctor goes through the results with you. If the evidence suggests a change to your plan, your doctor explains why. If your numbers are where they should be, your plan carries on.

What you do. Have your bloods drawn when the referral arrives, then attend your review with any questions written down.

Every 6 months from there

What happens. Repeat bloods every 6 months, now including PSA and liver function alongside the core markers, with a doctor review each time. Your plan is adjusted on evidence, not guesswork. Your portal shows every result side by side and tells you when your next bloods are due.

What you do. Keep an eye on your next-bloods date. If your doctor has flagged a marker to watch, such as a rising haematocrit, a re-check may be brought forward, and your portal will show the date.

What does each stage cost?

Each step is paid when you reach it, online by card. The discovery call is free, and a small payment when you finish the questionnaire covers both blood tests. You are only on a plan if your doctor recommends one. The plan is billed every 3 months and covers your doctor consultations and reviews, ongoing bloods and nurse support. Medication is separate and paid at your pharmacy. There is no lock-in contract, but talk to your doctor before you stop so any change is made safely. Current amounts are on our pricing page.

Already on treatment elsewhere?

If you are switching, you do not start from scratch. Share your current script and your latest bloods, and a doctor reviews them before your first consultation. If your treatment is well managed, we continue it. If the evidence suggests a change, your doctor explains why. See Switching to Apex TRT for the three steps.

Where to from here

Every plan starts in the same place: start the 5-minute health assessment. It is free, with no obligation. If you would rather talk first, book a free discovery call. The five steps are also set out on How it works.

Have questions about testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or want to understand how Apex TRT works before getting started?

Your Free Discovery Call: What to Expect

Have questions about testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or want to understand how Apex TRT works before getting started?

Our free discovery call is a relaxed phone conversation with our care team, where you can ask questions and learn more about our process.

There's no obligation to proceed. It's simply an opportunity to get the information you need.

What is a discovery call?

A discovery call is a free 10-minute phone conversation with a member of the Apex TRT care team.

It's an opportunity to learn how our clinic works, what the process involves and what to expect if you decide to get started.

The call isn't a medical consultation, so we can't diagnose conditions, interpret blood results or recommend treatment during the conversation.

What can we talk about?

During your discovery call, you can ask questions about:

How the Apex TRT process works

Blood tests and the initial assessment

Doctor consultations and treatment plans

Pricing and what's included in your ongoing care

Switching to Apex TRT from another clinic

Any other questions you have about getting started

We'll also give you an opportunity to tell us a little about yourself and what you're hoping to find out.

Our goal is to help you understand the process and feel comfortable with your next steps.

Do I need to book a discovery call?

No. Discovery calls are completely optional.

If you're ready to get started, you can skip the call and go straight to our online medical questionnaire.

Once completed, you can arrange your initial blood test.

If you'd prefer to speak with someone first, that's exactly what the discovery call is for.

How do I book a discovery call?

Booking is simple.

Choose a time that suits you through our online booking calendar.

You'll receive an email confirming your appointment, along with the details you need for your call.

A member of our care team will call you at your scheduled time.

If you have trouble booking, you can email support@apextrt.com.au for assistance.

What happens after my discovery call?

If you'd like to get started, you can complete our online medical questionnaire and arrange your initial blood test.

If you'd prefer to take some time to think things over, that's completely fine too.

There's no obligation to proceed, and the decision is entirely yours.

Ready to get started?

If you have questions or would like to speak with our team first, book your free discovery call.

Already know you'd like to get started? Click Start Now to complete your medical questionnaire and begin your journey with Apex TRT.

General information, not medical advice. Discovery calls are for general information about Apex TRT services and do not replace a medical consultation. Treatment is only prescribed where clinically appropriate, following an assessment by an AHPRA-registered practitioner.

How to Prepare for Your Testosterone Blood Test | Apex TRT Learn

Total vs free testosterone, why the draw is fasted and in the morning, why we test twice, and what else sits on your Apex baseline panel.

What a testosterone blood test measures

Low testosterone is a number before it is anything else. Persistent fatigue, low drive or a flat mood can point towards it, but each of those has other possible causes. The only way to know where your levels sit is a blood test, which is why every Apex TRT plan starts with your bloods, not a checklist.

Here is what the test measures, why we ask for it to be drawn a particular way, and what the rest of the panel is doing alongside your testosterone result.

What does the test actually measure?

The test reports how much testosterone is in a sample of your blood, in nanomoles per litre (nmol/L). On its own, that number tells your doctor how much was circulating when the sample was taken. To mean anything, it has to be read alongside your symptoms, your history and the other markers on the panel.

Your panel reports two testosterone figures, not one: total and free. They answer different questions.

Total versus free

Total testosterone is the main marker. It counts all the testosterone in your blood, whether it is bound to a protein or moving freely.

Free testosterone is the share your body can actually use. It can be low even when the total looks fine, which is why we measure both rather than stopping at the headline figure.

The link between the two is a protein called SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin). SHBG decides how much of your testosterone is free, so your doctor needs it to read the other two numbers properly. It is on your panel every time.

Why a fasted, morning draw?

Your referral asks for a fasted morning draw, because it gives the most accurate readings. The practical part is simple: book an early collection slot and do not eat beforehand. Your referral and the collection centre will tell you exactly what to do on the day.

Why two blood tests?

Levels change from day to day. A single result can be affected by the timing of the draw and by how you were that week. That is why every Apex TRT plan starts with two blood tests: a full panel first, then a follow-up. Two results give your doctor a clearer picture than one.

Eligibility rests on ongoing symptoms plus bloods that confirm low testosterone, typically two low, fasted, morning readings. Even then, the final call sits with your doctor, never a form. A result that looks low on paper still has to make sense against your history.

What else is on the panel?

Your testosterone result is never read on its own. Your first panel also includes:

SHBG, the protein described above.

Oestradiol (E2). Some testosterone converts to oestrogen, so this is measured at the start and watched to keep the balance right on treatment.

Full blood count, including haematocrit. Haematocrit is the key safety marker we watch on treatment.

PSA, a prostate marker checked before treatment starts and monitored while you stay on it.

Liver function, confirmed healthy at the start and rechecked at each ongoing review.

Together these let your doctor decide on the whole picture, not one number. Your doctor may add markers based on your history.

How do you get tested?

You do not need a GP referral. Start with the 5-minute health assessment, then a small upfront payment for your bloods. We send the pathology referral to your phone and you visit a collection centre run by one of our Australian pathology partners, anywhere in Australia.

The lab sends your results straight to your doctor, who reviews them within 48 hours of the lab releasing them, before they appear in your portal. You then go through them with an AHPRA-registered doctor, by video or phone.

Where to from here

If the symptoms sound familiar and you want to know where your levels sit, start the 5-minute health assessment. It is free and there is no obligation. To see where your blood tests fit in, read How it works, and for what each step costs, see our pricing page.

This article is general information, not medical advice.

Your Telehealth Doctor Consultation: What to Expect | Apex TRT Learn

What to expect from an Apex telehealth consultation: the free discovery call, your doctor by video or phone, privacy and what happens after.

Telehealth consultations: what to expect

Every Apex TRT consultation happens by telehealth. No clinic visits, no waiting rooms, no GP referral. If you have not seen a doctor by video before, here is what to expect, from booking through to follow-up.

Who will I speak to, and when?

There are two kinds of conversation.

The first is optional: a free 10-minute discovery call with the Apex TRT care team, by phone, at a time you pick. We listen to your symptoms, your history, any medications you take and what you want to change, then explain how the process works, what we test and the full cost of care. The person you speak to is not a doctor and will not give medical advice. If it is not right for you, they tell you on the call, at no cost.

The second is your consultation with an AHPRA-registered doctor, once your bloods are back. You book it online and it runs by secure video, or by phone if you prefer. This is where your results are explained and, if it is right for you, your plan is set.

What does the doctor have in front of them?

Your questionnaire and your bloods. Your answers go straight to the clinical team, so you never repeat yourself, and the lab sends your results directly to your doctor, who reviews them within 48 hours of the lab releasing them and before your appointment.

That preparation is the point. Because the reading has already been done, the consultation is spent on what your results show and on your options, not paperwork. Your doctor walks you through your panel and explains the reasoning behind any recommendation. If your levels are normal, they do not prescribe, and they tell you why.

What happens in the consultation?

Expect a conversation, not a form. Your doctor will:

Confirm your history and any medications you take

Go through your bloods with you and explain what each marker means

Discuss whether treatment is clinically appropriate, including side effects, before any script is written

Explain your plan and how to follow it, if treatment is right for you

Tell you what happens next: your eScript, follow-up bloods and your next review

You are welcome to ask anything. Writing your questions down beforehand helps you use the time well.

Is it private?

Consultations run over a secure video connection. You choose where you take the call, and most people use a quiet room at home. Nothing is discussed with anyone outside your care team without your consent. If you would like your GP kept in the loop, we can share your results and plan with them, but only if you ask us to.

How long does it take?

The discovery call is about 10 minutes. Doctor consultations are booked as a dedicated time slot, and you will see the length when you book. Join a couple of minutes early, check your camera and microphone, and keep your phone nearby, because that is where your eScript and referrals arrive.

What do I need on my end?

A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and a stable internet connection

A quiet, private space

Your questions, and a note of any medications and supplements you take

Your phone, for the SMS that carries your eScript and pathology referrals

If video is not practical, let us know when you book and your consultation can be done by phone.

What happens after the consultation?

If treatment is right for you, your eScript arrives on your phone the same day your plan is approved. Your results, scripts, receipts and bookings sit in your portal. For new patients, follow-up bloods and a review come at week 10. After that, repeat bloods and a doctor review every 6 months.

How do I reach someone between appointments?

A nurse is a message away. Message the care team for anything practical: rebooking, resending an SMS, a question about your referral, or whether something you have noticed needs a doctor. We reply within one business day. Clinical questions go to a doctor, and the care team will arrange a review if one is needed. If you are worried about your health right now, contact your GP, or call 000 in an emergency.

Where to from here

Start the 5-minute health assessment. It is free and leads to your blood tests. If you would rather talk first, book a free discovery call, and you can read what the call covers on our discovery call page. The five steps are set out on How it works, and what each one costs is on our pricing page.

Thinking About Switching TRT Clinics? Here's How It Works | Apex TRT Learn

Already on treatment with another clinic? What to send Apex, how the doctor review works, how we time the move around your supply, and where your results live.

Switching clinics without a gap in care

If you are already on treatment with another clinic and want to move to Apex TRT, the process is short and the aim is simple: your care carries on, your plan is reviewed against your bloods, and nothing lapses in between. Here is how it works and how to time it.

Can I switch if I am already on treatment?

Yes, and you do not start again. Share your current script and your most recent bloods, and an AHPRA-registered doctor reviews them before your first consultation. If your treatment is well managed, we continue it. If the evidence suggests a change, your doctor explains why before anything changes. Most people keep their existing plan without interruption.

What do I need to send?

Two things, and a photo of each is fine.

Your current script, exactly as written by your current prescriber. A photo or PDF works.

Your most recent bloods. The results your current clinic has been working from, ideally your latest panel. If you have your original baseline results as well, send those too.

It also helps to tell us how much supply you have left, so we can book your review around it. No copy of your script or results? Your current clinic or your pathology provider can send you one. If your doctor needs anything newer, we send a referral to your phone and you visit a collection centre near you, no GP visit needed.

What does the doctor review look at?

Before your first consultation, your doctor reads your history and your results together. They are asking two questions: does your current plan make sense given your levels and your safety markers, and is there anything in the numbers that needs attention?

Because that happens before you meet, the consultation itself, by secure video or phone at a time you book, is spent on your plan rather than paperwork. Your doctor confirms whether your plan continues as it is or explains any change they recommend. If they need fresh bloods to make that call, they will say so.

How do I avoid a gap?

The gap most people worry about is between the last script from the old clinic and the first from the new one. Three things close it.

Start before you need to. Begin while you still have supply and repeats in hand, not the week you run out. The doctor review takes time to book, and fresh bloods take time to come back if they are needed.

Tell us what you have left. We time your review around your remaining supply, so you are not left short.

Keep your current script until your new plan is confirmed. Do not cancel anything with your current clinic until your Apex TRT doctor has confirmed your plan.

If treatment continues, your eScript arrives on your phone the same day your plan is approved and fills at any Australian pharmacy, including the one you use now. We add no markup, so there is no reason to change where you fill it.

Do I keep my results?

Yes. Your transferred results and every blood test from here sit in your portal, charted side by side and yours to download. If you ever leave, they leave with you. With your consent, we can also share your results and plan with your GP.

What does ongoing care look like after the switch?

The same as for any Apex TRT patient. Your plan is reviewed against your bloods, with repeat bloods and a doctor review at regular intervals. Your plan covers your consultations and reviews, ongoing bloods and nurse support, billed every 3 months with no lock-in contract. Questions about scripts, bookings or results go to a person who knows your plan, a message away. What switching costs is set out on Switching to Apex TRT and our pricing page.

Where to from here

Ready to move? See the three steps on Switching to Apex TRT, then start the 5-minute health assessment; it asks whether you are already on treatment. Prefer to talk it through first? Book a free discovery call.
